At the Parish Council meeting on Monday evening (May 23rd) the subject of launching a Citizen of the Year Award was discussed. The proposal was suggested to recognise many of the "unsung heroes" who invest a great deal of time and effort in making Tarvin Parish a great place to live. Councillors Lloyd and Jones had prepared a preliminary report.
While it was easy to recognise a wide range of categories of acts that might well be regarded as very worthy of inclusion in such an award, the report also highlighted the complexities of organising such an event. Who would organise, fund, and create the rules? Who would be eligible, who could nominate and, perhaps more crucially, who would decide the winner?
The Parish Council decided, with some reluctance, that such an undertaking would need more resources than the Parish Council itself was able to commit to the project. Such an initiative, being community wide in scope, perhaps needed a wider community grouping to be a real success.
Should anyone feel that they would like to take the idea forward and/or read a copy of the full report please do get in touch with the Clerk on 01829 741075 or at miketarvinparish@aol.com
