Tarvinonline attended last weeks' Connecting Cheshire Conference held in Alderley Edge.
The theme for the conference was "towards 100% fibre coverage" and included speakers from Connecting Cheshire, Cheshire East Council, BT Group, and, the Government Organisation, Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK).
The conference was well attended by a large number of Broadband Champions (Phil Miles Co-Ed is Tarvin's Champion), Parish Councillors, and, businesses.
Phase 1 Fibre Installation
There is now 96% coverage of SuperFast broadband (SFB) across Cheshire, with only 50 cabinets awaiting the upgrade. Of those outstanding 50% will be upgraded by Christmas this year, and, the balance completed by Spring 2016. This has cost £28.5 million.
Ed:"This is an incredible achievement with almost 500 cabinets upgraded and 900miles of fibre-optic cabling installed, and 85,000 premises able to access Superfast Broadband!"
Phase 2 Fibre Installation
An additional £6m of funding has been secured with the following aims:
To reach an additional 10,000 premises
To reach 98% fibre coverage by summer 2017
To install approx. 200 new cabinets and structures
Ed:"All residents in Tarvin should now be able to access superfast broadband (SFB). Remember you need to upgrade your current broadband subscription to access it with your current supplier. Whilst BT is the main supplier, most broadband suppliers can offer you competitive rates, so it is worth shopping around."
